PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

Nelson House Care Home aims to provide its residents with a secure, relaxed, and homely environment in which their care, well-being and comfort is of prime importance.

Our Carers will strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and caring atmosphere, and in doing so will be sensitive to the residents ever changing needs.

Such needs may be medical/therapeutic (for physical and mental welfare), cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional and social. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individualised Plan of Care, as are family and friends where appropriate.

This will be achieved through programmes of activities designed to encourage mental alertness, self esteem, and social interaction with other residents and with recognition of the core values of care which are fundamental to the philosophy of our home.

ACTIVITIES

At Nelson House, we firmly believe that the body and the mind are very closely linked and that keeping the body active, even for those who are perhaps less mobile than they once were, can also do wonders for their state of mind. As such, we have an Activities Co-Ordinator on the team, whose role it is to run a programme  of pastimes to stimulate both body and mind.

We like to keep things varied, so there's something for everyone to enjoy:

  • Live music and dancing
  • Bingo, quizzes, card games, arts & crafts
  • Local Outings
  • Reminiscence Therapy
  • Light aerobic exercise to music
  • Pets as Therapy visits
  • Pampering
  • Visits from local religious figures

We are also happy for the following professionals to visit the home:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Podiatry
  • Optician
  • Dentist
  • Hairdresser
  • Library Services
  • Occupational and Speech Therapy
